The Joint Learning Initiative on Children and HIV/AIDS (JLICA) is an independent, multi-disciplinary network of scholars, policy-makers, practitioners and activists working to promote evidence-based policies to more effectively reach HIV-affected children and families living in extreme poverty; expand access to essential services; strengthen families and communities; and improve outcomes for children. "Beyond the Orphan Crisis" examines realities and misconceptions about the lives of millions of children affected by the epidemic. Speakers will discuss current policy and implementation challenges; political opportunities for promoting family-centered approaches to children's wellbeing; and potential lessons from Latin American experiences. Presenters will also review some of JLICA's key findings, addressing strategies to strengthen families and communities, the challenges of HIV prevention among adolescents, and family-centered intervention models. The satellite program will provide ample time for questions and discussion.
