Abstract

Background: SIVIDA Foundation, an NGO working for more than 10 years in prevention, counselling and testing for HIV / AIDS. This consists of a group of students and professionals working and ad honors belong to medicine, psychology, social communication and advocacy.
It was an experience during the 2006 and 2007 in schools in Rosario, Argentina. We take this time for being the most in demand. She established telephone contact and recognition of this institution.
Over these years we have come districts with populations of different social realities. The ages of the students range from 13 to 18 years.
The diagnostic phase includes the identification of knowledge about modes of transmission and prevention measures for HIV / AIDS. Also what are the myths and prejudices that underlie the issue.
Methods: Workshops for reflection, with an entertaining and educational mode and a subsequent questionnaire applied to all students who participated in the training workshops. The workshops are gatherings where it seeks maximum interaction between participants from different perspectives to address (social, cultural, psychological) issues and thus generate involvement.
Results: The 85% of the pupils have information on fluids in the body where the virus is found. 75% have knowledge of the modes of transmission and prevention measures for HIV. 70% said that PLWHA suffer social discrimination. The 60% believe that young people are more likely to become infected with HIV and think that AIDS is linked to the death.
Conclusions: We believe as the great relevant knowledge they acquired the students in the prevention workshops on HIV / AIDS. Despite this, the myths and prejudices in relation to the death and "risk groups" are still present. They expressed the importance of knowing about HIV / AIDS in order to care, prevention, non-discrimination and eradicate social exclusion suffered those infected with the virus.
