Visa Information - Delegates
Transit through the United States of America
For delegates who need to travel through the United States, current information on requirements can be found on the consular sections at individual U.S. embassy and consulate homepages. A US visa is required to transit through the US from most countries.

If you requested a letter of invitation between June 9th and June 22th, please wait an additional 8 working days before applying for your visa (16 days in total), as we had some trouble in sharing the participants' information with the Mexican Authorities and cannot guarantee that the Mexican embassies and consulates have received your details within the originally states 8 working days.
For Delegates from Countries who do NOT Require a Visa
Delegates who are citizens of the following countries do not need to apply for a visa to enter Mexico:

All you need is:
- a valid passport expiring at least 6 months after the date that you enter Mexico
- to complete the standard "Migration Form for Tourists, Transmigrants, Visiting Businesspersons, or Visiting Consultants", (FMTTV) which will be given to you on the airplane or at the airport (an example is available here).
The completed form and your passport need to be given to the immigration authorities at the airport.
The border entry officer may check that you are on the AIDS 2008 delegate list, therefore we recommend that you complete the Passport Details section of the conference profile (www.aids2008.org/profile).
For Delegates from Countries who Require a Visa
If you are from a country which does require a visa to enter Mexico please follow the steps below:
- Register
You will need to register for the conference and pay in full before you can be included in the special visa application process for conference delegates.
- Passport Details
Please complete your details on the Passport Details page in the Conference Profile. These details will be shared with the Mexican Authorities to expedite your visa application.
- Request a Letter of Invitation
Request a letter of invitation through the conference profile by clicking on the appropriate link from the Overview page. This will only be possible if you have provided the required passport details and registered and paid in full. You should print this document and submit it with your visa application.
- Visa Application
Your details will be shared with the Mexican Immigration authorities who will check your details and pre-issue your visa.
To ensure the Mexican authorities have adequate time to process your request apply as soon as possible.
Two weeks after you have entered your passport details you will need to go to your closest Mexican consulate/embassy (list is available here) and present the following:
- Your Passport
- Your Letter of Invitation
- US$36 (or equivalent in local currency)
- A completed visa application form
(Download the form in English, Spanish or French)
- Please note that if you apply for your visa in China or Russia you will also need to provide a photo (in colour and passport format) and they will also take the fingerprints of your two index fingers.
No Mexican Representation in your Country
If there is no Mexican consulate or embassy that can issue a visa in your country you will need to apply, in person, at a consulate or embassy in another country (the full list is available here).
The deadline to receive payments for the UNDP Visa Delivery Support Process has now passed.
DO NOT PAY AS WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO REFUND YOUR PAYMENT.
Please note that your bank may also charge additional charges.
